Tottenham will trial covid passports against Arsenal ahead of October 1 enforcement

Tottenham has announced that all their adult fans intending to watch the preseason matches between their men and women teams against Arsenal’s next month will have to provide NHS covid passports certifying that they have either been double-jabbed, have immunity against the coronavirus because of a previous infection or has tested negative for it.

This comes as the UK government tries to lower the rising infection rate in the country.

They have allowed clubs to welcome large capacity crowds to their stadiums but it seems that in the near future they can only admit individuals who are certified free of the virus.

The Tottenham men and women’s team will face off with their counterparts for preseason friendlies next month and the club thinks it would be the best time to trial the use of covid passports generated from the NHS app to admit spectators.

It is unlikely that every Premier League club will follow their lead even when the season starts, but Spurs want to be prepared ahead of only double-jabbed fans being admitted into the stadiums from October 1.

‘Tottenham Hotspur will be trialling the use of the NHS COVID Pass to verify the vaccination or Covid status of supporters attending our Men’s and Women’s matches against Arsenal on Sunday 8 August,’ Spurs said in a statement on the club website.

The club added: ‘All adult supporters attending the Arsenal double-header will be required to present their NHS COVID Pass, generated by the NHS App, on their mobile device as they enter the stadium to confirm they are either fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID-19 test result within 48 hours of kick-off.

‘Please note, if you have not yet received both required COVID-19 jabs, you will be required to take either a PCR or rapid lateral flow test.

‘Passes will be checked by a steward between the initial ticket check at the bottom of the stairs leading to our podiums and ahead of arrival at our turnstiles.’
