Tottenham ‘interested’ in signing £60m-rated versatile Frenchman

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan.

The 23-year-old French defender has established himself as a key player for the Bundesliga outfit and his performances attracted the attention of Tottenham and Newcastle.

According to journalist Philipp Hinze, the two Premier League clubs are ‘interested’ in him and he has a release clause of £60 million in his contract. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham or Newcastle decide to come forward with an official offer to sign the player at the end of the season.

It is no secret that Tottenham need to sign another central defender in the summer. Ange Postecoglou has recently admitted that his side are still in need of another central defender in the summer. Newcastle need to find a partner for Sven Botman as well. The 23-year-old Bundesliga defender could be tempted to move to the Premier League if the opportunity presents itself. It will be an exciting option for him, and he would get to test himself against the best attackers in the world.

The reported release clause could be a bit of a problem for clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle. The North London outfit have other priorities in the transfer market as well and Newcastle will have to comply with the financial regulations. They are unlikely to secure european qualification and therefore they might not have a lot to spend.

It will be interesting to see if RB Leipzig are prepared to sell the defender for a more reasonable price.

Simakan certainly has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League and he would improve both clubs defensively. He is versatile enough to operate as a central defender as well as a right back. He could be a long-term asset for the two clubs.

The 23-year-old is still quite young and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He could develop into a key player for the two Premier League sides in the long run.
