Tottenham want 25-year-old Serie A ace to replace fan favourite

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret.

According to a report from La Repubblica (h/t CalcioNapoli24), the London club want to sign the 25-year-old Italian goalkeeper as a replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris.

The 36-year-old has regressed massively and his error-prone performances have cost Tottenham dearly this season.

The World Cup winner has produced a number of high-profile errors in big games this season and Conte will need to replace him as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper by the end of this season. Lloris’s experience and leadership skills will still be useful for Spurs, but he should not start every week.

On the other hand, Meret has been outstanding for Napoli and he has helped the Italian giants stay on top of the table.

Apparently, the 25-year-old wants to win the league title with Napoli and sign a new contract with them. His current contract expires in 2024.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince him to move to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Spurs certainly have the resources to offer him a lucrative contract and they might even be able to pay him more than Napoli. However, they must secure Champions League qualification in order to attract players of his quality and it remains to be seen where Antonio Conte’s side ends up in the table.

Sports are currently fifth in the league table and they will need to improve their performances in the coming months in order to break into the top four.
