Tottenham urged to sign 26-year-old Premier League striker with just six goals this season

John Wenham wants Tottenham to push for the signature of Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

The North London club are gearing up for an important transfer window where they will look to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s team. On the back of the progress made in his first season in charge, the club will now look to ensure the Australian is backed in the transfer market.

While they will look to reinforce multiple positions, signing a new number nine will be a top priority for the club. Son Heung-min has done an impressive job up top during the 2023/24 season but Postecoglou wants an out-and-out striker to lead the line for his side next season.

John Wenham feels they should push for the signature of Taiwo Awoniyi. The North London club have been linked with his teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi in recent weeks.

Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose’s owner feels going after the services of the former Chelsea attacker won’t be the best decision and Awoniyi would be a better investment.

While speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I’d much rather Tottenham went out and signed Gibbs-White and Awoniyi from Forest.”

No doubt Hudson-Odoi has had an impressive season, but Wenham feels the Nigerian striker would be a better fit for Tottenham. He might have only scored six goals in the recently concluded season, but he has the ability to hold up play and bring others into the game.

The 26-year-old is likely to be tempted if a club like Tottenham comes calling this summer. Playing with the likes of Son, Richarlison and James Maddison week in and week out could bring the best out of him. It will be an exciting step up in his career, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
