Tottenham transfer target who was rejected 5 years ago opens up about his experience

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s transfer target, Roony Bardghji, has opened up about his past experience with the club.

The 18-year-old Copenhagen winger, currently linked with a move to Spurs in the January transfer window, had a trial with Tottenham at the age of 13. During this trial, he made a significant impact by scoring three goals and providing two assists in a 6-1 victory over Ipswich, but was still not selected

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Bardghji reflected on his time at Tottenham, describing it as a valuable experience.

He expressed appreciation for witnessing the level of football outside of Sweden and being part of a prestigious club like Tottenham to understand their operations.

He said: “It was a really good experience, seeing the level and how football is outside Sweden, being at a big club like Tottenham and seeing how they work.”

While the young sensation is in the penultimate year of his contract with Copenhagen, set to expire on December 31, 2025, the Danish club are not keen on extending his contract.

Instead, their focus is on securing a substantial sale for Bardghji either in the current January transfer window or during the upcoming summer transfer window.

With 11 goals in 30 appearances this season across all competitions and a total of 71 first-team appearances at the age of 18, Bardghji is one of the highly-rated youngsters at the moment.

His goal-scoring ability and versatility as a player makes him a promising star, and Tottenham, under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, could be an ideal place for his development into a top-tier Premier League attacker.

But other clubs are interested in him as well, with Chelsea and Manchester United, two other Premier League clubs, said to be keen on securing his services.
