Tottenham transfer plan to improve key area has now changed because of duo

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur were expected to sign a quality defensive midfielder this summer.

However, a report from the Standard now claims that Tottenham have changed their stance on the issue and signing a defensive midfielder is no longer a priority for them.

Apparently, they are impressed with the performances of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall during the pre-season and they are ready to bank on the young duo this season. Initially, they were looking to add more quality and depth to that position.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined Marseille and Yves Bissouma is the only specialist defensive midfielder at the club right now. Tottenham have sanctioned the departure of Oliver Skipp as well.

Spurs are lacking in experienced heads in the midfield but they have clearly chosen to bank on their young talents. It will be interesting to see if the likes of Gray and Bergvall can deliver the goods.

There is no doubt that the two players are prodigious young talents with a bright future. They have shown their quality at their respective clubs before a move to Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if they can settle into the Premier League quickly and make an instant impact.

Tottenham will be competing in the UEFA Europa League this season. They will need greater depth and experience in the side. It will be interesting to see if they can get through the season without signing an experienced midfielder.

They will be for to push for a trophy this season, and they will also look to return to the Champions League.
