Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea.
A report from the Sun claims that the 22-year-old was scouted by Tottenham in November and December. The report further states that Tottenham scouts will be in attendance to watch the Basque Derby against Osasuna tonight and they will run the rule over the 22-year-old winger.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on signing a wide forward and he believes that Barrenetxea could play a similar role to that of Jota at Celtic.
The Spanish under-21 international has been a key player for Sociedad and he is versatile enough to operate on either flank. The winger has picked up four goals and two assists this season and he could develop into a quality player for Tottenham with the right coaching and guidance.
Arsenal are keen on signing the Spanish winger as well and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition from their rivals and sign the player. Arsenal have not been able to rotate their wingers this season and they need more options to work with.
A move to Tottenham or Arsenal would be a major step up in the Spaniard’s career, and he is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League. He will want to test himself at the highest level.
Tottenham need more depth in their attack and the 22-year-old would be a solid, long-term investment. Tottenham are currently lacking a reliable number nine and they must sign players who can share the goalscoring burden from the wide areas as well. The Real Sociedad winger certainly fits the profile.
