Tottenham to scout 21-yr-old who impressed against them, during the World Cup

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of players in recent months and it appears that the Sporting Lisbon star Manuel Ugarte is on their transfer radar.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has done well for the Portuguese club this season and he impressed against Tottenham in the Champions League group stages.

The player is currently away on World Cup duty with his country and Tottenham are reportedly keeping tabs on his performances with Uruguay.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O’Rourke said: “I think Tottenham scouts will be actively monitoring him at the World Cup, and although it might be hard to do a deal in January, it might be something that Spurs look at in the summer.”

The midfielder has a release clause of around €80 million and it will be interesting to see if Spurs decide to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old is still quite young and he is likely to improve further with experience and coaching. However, Ugarte is already operating at a high level and he could be an excellent addition to Antonio Conte’s side.

Yes, the London club have three impressive midfielders in Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg. However, they could use more quality and depth in that area. Ugarte would be a superb long-term acquisition.

A world-class manager like Antonio Conte could help the player develop further and fulfil his tremendous potential.

Furthermore, the signing of the 21-year-old would allow Spurs to rotate their first-team stars and keep the squad fresh so that they can compete on all fronts this season.
