Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.
A report from the Standard claims that the north London club are keen on signing the 21-year-old defensive midfielder and Middlesbrough are prepared to sell him this month if a ‘sensational offer’ is presented.
Spurs will also face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool for the player. Both clubs are interested in signing the youngster and Tottenham should look to make their move quickly to beat the competition from their top four rivals.
It is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a quality midfielder this month and Hackney would be a solid long-term investment. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club and the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are currently away on international duty.
Signing a quality midfielder in January could prove to be a wise decision. Hackney has the potential to develop into a top class Premier League midfielder with coaching and guidance.
Even if Spurs have to pay over the odds for him now, the midfielder could justify the outlay in the coming seasons.
Tottenham have the bones of a very good squad but they need to add more depth and quality to the site if they wants to compete for major trophies. They will be desperate for Champions League qualification this season and the right additions in January could help them finish the season strongly.
A move to the Premier League would be a step up in the talented young midfielder’s career as well and he will be determined to showcase his qualities with Tottenham in the top flight.
