Tottenham to battle it out with Newcastle for 23-year-old PL ace

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sign the Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu at the end of the season.

Southampton are currently fighting for their place in the Premier League next season and they could lose a number of key players if they go down to the Championship at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has been a key player for Southampton joining them and Salisu would be a superb acquisition for Tottenham.

The Londoners need to add more quality to their backline and Salisu could prove to be an upgrade on players like Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga. The likes of Sanchez and Tanganga have been linked with moves away from the club at the end of the season and on-loan defender Clement Lenglet will return to his parent club.

Conte needs to sign a quality centre-back to partner Cristian Romero at the heart of his defence next season and the 23-year-old Premier League star could prove to be the ideal acquisition.

He is well-settled in the Premier League and he could make an immediate impact at the London club.

As per Football Insider, Tottenham will face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle who are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements as well.

Salisu will have just 12 months left on his contract at the end of the season and Southampton could be under pressure to sell him for a reasonable price during the summer transfer window.

A move to Tottenham or Newcastle would be a step up in the player’s career and he is likely to be tempted to join them.
