Tottenham tipped to push hard for Premier League player that they “really need”

Danny Ings has emerged as one of Tottenham’s summer targets after he entered the last 12 months of his current deal at Southampton.

He has told the Saints that he doesn’t want to sign a new contract with them at the moment (The Athletic).

This means this is their best time to sell him and make some money from his transfer.

Tottenham has been his long-term admirers and it seems Fabio Paratici also thinks he should be on their books.

Football Insider says Spurs want to combine him and Harry Kane in their attack and former Leeds United forward, Noel Whelan has praised the Englishman and even claims that he is the type of striker Spurs have needed.

He says while Kane loves to drop deep, Ings can run in behind to cause problems for the opposition.

This attribute makes him the type of striker that Tottenham has been missing for some time now and he expects them to push hard to sign him.

He told Football Insider: “Ings has just been brilliant for Southampton.

“He has been their top goalscorer since he’s been there.

“He can run in behind, come short and bring others into play and he scores all kinds of goals. There is no doubt about it, he is a real handful for defenders.

“Spurs haven’t had a player like that for a long time because while Ings will play on the shoulder of defenders, Kane likes to come deep and pick up the ball in that number 10 position. They definitely need somebody like that.

“Ings is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and that is why I think they’ll push hard to get the deal over the line.

“He still has another year left on his contract at Southampton though, and perhaps they will dig their heels in and keep him for one more season. I think everyone expects them to cash in now though.”
