Tottenham Target Has Admitted – A Call From Jose Is Impossible To Refuse

“At some point, you have requests where you say to yourself: ‘How am I going to refuse if guys like Mourinho call?’. That’s when you really have to ask yourself and say; ‘What are these people going to bring me?’”

The words of alleged Tottenham target M’Baye Niang during an Instagram Live session last month – quotes via Goal. Although the 25-year-old, whom L’Equipe reports is on our shortlist of possible striker signings this summer, was actually talking about our supposed interest in his Rennes teammate Eduardo Camavinga; the 17-year-old midfielder everyone is talking about.

But the sentiment doesn’t change even if the subject does, right? Niang is saying that playing for Jose Mourinho would be an opportunity too good to turn down. If it’s good enough for Camavinga, it’s good enough for him.

Niang has long been tipped for big things without ever really delivering, which you could argue makes him perfectly suited to playing for Spurs. He caught my eye during a loan spell at Watford; in the ‘oh he looks like a decent player…for Watford’, type of way. The Ghanaian only scored two goals in 16 outings for the Hornets. I thought he’d done better than that.

Niang’s 10 goals in 26 games for Rennes this season is more like it but I think we should be aiming higher. That being said, we’ve aimed so low before for Harry Kane cover that he’d be a relative coup in comparison.
