Tottenham suffers transfer blow with latest Romero update

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham might have to turn their attention away from Cristian Romero after the defender informed them that he isn’t looking to change clubs right now.

The Juventus loanee at Atalanta has emerged as one of Tottenham’s key defensive targets this summer.

He has been in stunning form since he joined Atalanta and has just helped Argentina to win Copa America in Brazil.

The defender is on the wishlist of several top clubs including Manchester United.

Tottenham would have been confident of winning the race for his signature, considering that their new football director, Fabio Paratici, was involved in his transfer to and out of Juventus.

Corriere dello Sport as reported by Sport Witness says Paratici has called him to sell the idea of playing for Tottenham.

However, the Argentinian kindly informed him that he is not interested in making a move away from Atalanta, at least for now.

This would come as another blow to Tottenham who are also struggling to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Both players play in Serie A and Paratici won’t be happy that he is struggling to bring either of them to Tottenham so far.

It remains unclear if Tottenham will still try to convince Romero that moving to the EPL would be the best next step in his career.

Correct.

”dealt transfer blow” should translate as; ‘we made this story up and as it was always bullish*t we have to kill it off before anyone twigs on…’

Same thing definitely happened with Kounde. Personal terms agreed but the player and the agent knew he was only going to move to us as a worst case scenario.

One thing I like about Paratici seems like he wasnt happy with the shanningans and has gone in on another target in the hope that Sevilla now dont have to sell the player cheap to one of our rivals.

There’s a little bit of nonsense in the story. Usually personal terms are agreed first, I know it’s not the proper way but we all know it happens. On this one Paratici knows the agent as he signed the player for Juventus. So we know the player is open to leaving Atalanta. Could they be using our interest to try and generate another offer, using our DOF as bait as he would have been a great sounding board for other clubs to follow up………different story!

Strictly speaking this is not a transfer blow. The player is just one of dozens being linked with the club most of which come to nothing. Surely a player should at least want to leave his club before talk of transfers, personal terms or contracts. Feels more like normal service is resumed to me?

Lets hope you’re correct- Just announce a fire sale, and hope DL takes anything that is offered, rather than holding out for top dollar for Winks,Dier,Sissoko,Sanchez,Davies,Doherty…

I’ve heard this one slightly different. Apparently the player is keen, problem is we are trying to offer Atalanta players that they don’t want or that are on too high wages. So it may need to be a cash deal. In which case we need to find someone to buy the players we have been offering.

There are at least 7 players being offered to clubs from our squad. Problem is we are shopping in Italy and the Italian clubs we are shopping at Fiorentina/Atalanta/Bologna can’t afford the same wages we are paying. None of the so called bigger higher payers will want our dross!!!!!
