Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie in recent weeks.
According to a report from German publication BILD, Tottenham have now submitted a verbal offer worth around €25 million for the 21-year-old center-back. Apparently, Antonio Conte is a big fan of the player.
The Londoners are looking to improve their defensive options this month and it will be interesting to see if the German club are prepared to sell Hincapie before the January window closes.
Tottenham are already closing in on a deal to sign the Sporting CP right back Pedro Porro.
The 23-year-old should prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham and managing to sign Hincapie as well this month would certainly be the icing on the cake for the London club.
Antonio Conte needs to bring in a reliable defensive partner for Cristian Romero and the Ecuador international could prove to be a solid long-term acquisition. Hincapie has impressed in the Bundesliga as well as the recently concluded World Cup with Ecuador.
He has the potential to develop into a top-class Premier League defender and a world-class manager like Conte could help him fulfill his potential.
The opportunity to join a Premier League club could be an exciting proposition for the young defender and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can tempt the German club into selling their prized asset this month.
Playing alongside the likes of Romero will help the young defender improve further and it could accelerate his development.
