Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma’s future at the club is now in question.
According to Josh Hughes from The Mail, who discussed the situation on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Bissouma might be put up for sale following a suspension by manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Mali international recently found himself in trouble after being caught on video inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, just days before the new Premier League season. The incident sparked considerable criticism, leading Bissouma to issue a public apology, where he admitted to a “severe lack of judgment.”
In response, Postecoglou suspended Bissouma from the team’s opening match, making it clear that the midfielder needs to regain the trust of both the manager and his teammates.
Although Postecoglou acknowledged Bissouma’s mistake, he indicated that the door remains open for the player to rebuild his reputation and learn from this incident.
Hughes noted that, despite the disciplinary action, Bissouma remains a talented player in a highly competitive role, and there could be significant interest in him if Tottenham decide to sell.
Given the demand for quality defensive midfielders, several clubs would likely be eager to secure his services.
Hughes said:
“Bissouma could be one that goes now. That is a new one, who might take him? I think there would be a lot of takers for him because there aren’t a huge amount of good players in that defensive midfield position.”
Last season, Bissouma was an important figure for Spurs, making 28 Premier League appearances under Ange Postecoglou. The manager was immediately impressed by him and used him in the midfield pivot alongside Pape Matar Sarr for most of the season.
However, his recent actions have cast a shadow over his standing at the club, leaving his future at Tottenham in doubt.
