This weekend, Tottenham Hotspur had the opportunity to put a tight hold on the race for the top four. The north London club fell 1-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion at home; furthermore, Arsenal also lost to Southampton, so Spurs had a chance to put a six-point buffer.

Also, Manchester United finally picked up three points after dropping points against Leicester City and Everton. So the race for the final spot sees three clubs vying for one place with three points separating them.

With only a handful of fixtures left in the season, some on the Tottenham squad understand the pressure to hold onto their spot. The Independent relayed the remarks made by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who is preaching a sense of urgency not to have any performances as they did against The Seagulls.

“We don’t have a cushion, so we have to go on another run,” Lloris said. “But we must take it game by game because if we look too far forward, we can slip in other games. What hurts me the most is, we have suffered so much, and to arrive in this position, it is not the moment to throw away what we have built in the last few weeks.”

“We received a lot of kicks during the season, and it is not the time to give this boost to our rivals. We have a week to prepare for the next game, and I hope this defeat will help the team to finish stronger.”

Tottenham hopes to get back into the win column next weekend when they travel to face Brentford, who’s riding a three-match winning streak, including a win over Chelsea.
