Tottenham set to ‘reject any approach’ for 27-year-old in January despite strong interest from European giants

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in January.

The Spanish club were interested in signing him in the summer with manager Xavi said to really like him. While a summer move could not materialise, recent reports claim that they are set to try again in the upcoming transfer window, specially after the injury to Gavi.

The Barcelona starlet suffered a season-ending injury while on duty with Spain and the La Liga giants have identified Lo Celso as an immediate solution.

SPORT reported that Lo Celso is inclined toward a January exit, as he is seeking a change from his current situation.

The Argentine midfielder is said to be not happy with the limited playing time having only played 83 minutes of football this season under Ange. The report claimed that he is in a ‘mood for a change‘ and that he would ‘welcome’ a return to La Liga.

However, as per Standard Sport, Tottenham ‘will reject any approach‘ from the La Liga side for the 27-year-old in January.

The report claims that with Maddison out for the rest of the year, he is expected to have an important and increased role in the team.

TBH Says:

The change in stance regarding Lo Celso makes complete sense. Spurs are already working with a very thin squad and the injuries have only gone and depleted their squad further.

Keeping in mind that we will be without Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for almost a month during the AFCON in January, we can not afford to lose any more midfielder.

The only way selling the Argentine will be acceptable is if we sign a couple of midfielders in the January window.
