Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, they will face competition from Newcastle United for the 20-year-old central defender. He has been linked with Chelsea as well.
The Uzbekistan international has done quite well for the French outfit and they are prepared to sell him for a fee of around €15-20 million. However, the asking price could rise depending on his preferences between now and the end of the season.
Tottenham have been scouting him regularly and scouts from the North London club were in attendance when the player was in action last weekend.
The reported asking price is quite affordable for a club with Tottenham’s resources, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to make a move for him in the coming months. The 20-year-old is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future. He could develop into a key player for the North London club with the right guidance. Tottenham need another quality central defender, and the Uzbekistan international would be the ideal long-term investment for them.
Tottenham currently have Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin as their central defensive options. Signing another central defender could complete the defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
The 20-year-old could be attracted to the idea of joining an English club as well. Tottenham have an ambitious project and a talented squad. They could provide him with the platform to compete at the highest level and push for trophies. Regular football in England could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his potential as well.
It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds. Newcastle need defensive reinforcements as well, and they have the resources to get the deal done. It will be interesting to see if they can win the race for his signature.
