Tottenham Hotspur are keen on improving their squad during the summer window and they could look to make multiple signings.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed to Football Insider that they could look to balance the books by selling some players as well. Tottenham do not have the resources to spend freely and therefore they will need to plan their transfer business carefully. It would make sense for them to get rid of some of their fringe players in order to improve their squad.
He said: “If there’s any interest in Emerson this summer then Spurs will have to make a decision on his future. If they are going to be busy in the transfer window this summer then they’re going to have to balance the books.”
The report states that Emerson Royal could be sacrificed in the summer if a substantial offer is presented. The Brazilian has not been a regular starter for Tottenham this season and Pedro Porro is the first choice right back at the club. Emerson is versatile enough to operate on both flanks as the full back and he has been a useful player for them. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to cash in on him.
Emerson Royal is not a key player for Tottenham
The 25-year-old defender needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and Tottenham will not be able to provide him with that opportunity. The defender was reportedly a target for Saudi Arabian clubs in January and it will be interesting to see if they decide to return for him in the summer. Saudi clubs have the financial resources to tempt Tottenham with a lucrative proposal.
The North London club are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they will be hoping to compete for major trophies in the coming seasons. They will need to improve their squad in the summer. Signing a quality striker, a central midfielder and another central defender should be their top priorities.
