Tottenham returns for young defender but face competition from Premier League rivals

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has returned for Max Aarons as they prepare to cash in on Serge Aurier this summer.

The Lilywhites has been searching for a new manager since they fired Jose Mourinho and they haven’t been successful.

While they wait for their next boss, they seem to be moving ahead with buying and selling players.

Sky Sports reports that they have renewed their interest in Aarons who has just helped Norwich City to gain promotion back into the Premier League.

The English full-back has been on their radar for some time now and the report says they considered signing him as a replacement for Kieran Trippier in 2019.

They also want to sign Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey this summer, but the Seagulls want around £50m for the former Chelsea academy player.

Aarons is valued at £30m and that is a more affordable sum for the Lilywhites.

Norwich wants to extend Aarons’ contract even though it still has three seasons to run on it, but it remains unclear if he would ask for a move to a bigger club or commit his long-term future to the Canaries.

The full-back is expected to only join if Tottenham gets rid of Aurier and the latter scenario looks very likely with PSG keen to take the Ivorian back.

I think PSG might be getting Hakimi so we’re stuck with Serge and the rest of the deadwood. Can’t wait for the season to start…

I don’t believe this story about PSG being interested in Aurier.
