Tottenham remain keen on £50m-rated Brazilian as transfer deadline edges closer

By Saikat -

Tottenham could launch a late move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfield sensation Joao Gomes.

The North London club have done wonders in the ongoing transfer window. They have bolstered their attack by extending Timo Werner’s loan spell, signing Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert while they have added two young stars to their midfield in Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Apart from the incomings, Spurs have also parted ways with eight players who were surplus to requirements.

While Ange Postecoglou will be quite happy with the transfer business done by his team this summer, there is still room for another signing. With less than 48 hours left in the transfer window, Spurs are looking to bring in another exciting midfielder. According to Dean Jones, Tottenham are interested in the services of Joao Gomes.

Yves Bissouma is Postecoglou’s current first-choice defensive midfielder but following the departure of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, they do not have enough competition for a place in the starting XI. The arrival of the Brazilian international could do wonders for them given the kind of start he has had since making the move to England at the start of 2023 to join Wolves.

He has hardly taken any time to settle in the Premier League and could be a great signing for the short as well as the long run. While speaking on Ranks FC Podcast, Jones suggested that Spurs “want someone with power from the midfield” and they really admire the 23-year-old who can feature as a defensive midfielder as well as a touch higher up the pitch. The Flamengo graduate could cost around £50 million but signing him won’t be easy with time running out.
