Tottenham ready to spend big on midfield target but they keep getting rejected

It seems all the talk about financial restrictions could be a bit of a smokescreen if the latest reports out of Italy involving Tottenham’s interest in Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo is anything to go by.

According to SportsWitness, who are citing both Sky Italia and Corriere Dello Sport, Spurs have twice made bids for Zaniolo and on both occasions have been rebuffed.

It goes further than that though.

Apparently Tottenham has sent a representative to Italy to discuss a possible deal face to face, well so claims Corriere Dello Sport’s Angelo Mangiante.

It should be noted that previous reports have claimed that Spurs have tabled a £45 million bid for the 21-year-old (Football London). That is rather a lot of money for a club supposedly with little money to spend.

GivemeSport ran an article claiming it will take £63 million to persuade Roma to sell. Another tidy sum.

Whether Tottenham sign Zaniolo or not is kind of irrelevant in terms of the financial aspect of all this.

It means that Spurs actually have the cash, or at least the credit, to be able to spend a significant amount of money on a player this summer.

That in itself has to be seen as very positive. If you believe Sky Italia and Corriere Dello Sport that is.
