Tottenham prioritises signing 26-year-old Portuguese star

João Palhinha has become a transfer priority for Tottenham as they look to keep bolstering their squad before this transfer window closes.

The Portugal international plays for Sporting Lisbon and he was instrumental as they ended their long wait for a league title by winning it last season.

Nuno Espirito Santo, who has been watching him before becoming the Tottenham boss, is said to like him.

A Bola claims that the former Wolves manager has told Spurs to add him to his squad before this transfer window closes.

The Lilywhites have now made signing him a priority and they will look to close out the transfer as soon as possible.

Spurs have an abundance of talent in midfield but they underperformed last season and a number of midfielders could yet be sold off.

The likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele are all facing uncertainty over their north London futures and it could see them have limited playing time in this campaign.

Palhinha has a contract that expires in 2025 and has a huge release clause written into the deal.

However, transfermarkt values him at €21.00m and that is likely the fee that Spurs will end up paying.
