Tottenham ‘pressing’ to sign versatile midfielder, ‘would like to secure his services’ in January

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on the Belgian midfielder Stanis Idumbo.

A report from Belgian publication DH claims that Tottenham are ‘pressing’ for the 18-year-old midfielder and they ‘would like to secure his services’ in January.

The Belgian is capable of operating as the central attacking midfielder as well as a winger. His versatility will be an added bonus for the North London club if they manage to sign him.

Tottenham could certainly use a creative midfielder in their ranks and the 18-year-old would be a solid, long-term investment. The Premier League side have been overly reliant on James Maddison for creativity and the 18-year-old would be an understudy to the England international.

Idumbo will be tempted to move to the Premier League if there is a concrete proposal on the table. A move to Tottenham will be a step up in his career and regular football in England could accelerate his development. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can negotiate a reasonable fee with Ajax for the under-21 midfielder.

The midfielder’s contract with Ajax expires in June 2024 and he will be a free agent at the end of the season. It would be ideal for Ajax to sell him in January for a nominal price instead of losing him on a free transfer in the summer.

Spurs will look to take advantage of his contract situation and get a deal done for the 18-year-old.

Idumbo could develop into a key player for the Premier League side with the right guidance and the signing could prove to be a major bargain if he manages to fulfil his potential.
