Tottenham prepares to challenge Inter Milan for Serie A midfielder

The Tottenham Hotspur midfield could be receiving some help this summer. According to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones (via FC Inter News), Tottenham and Inter Milan could be fighting it out for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié.

Kessié played a significant role in the Milan club that is returning to the UEFA Champions League following a long absence. However, the 24-year-old could be departing this summer.

With only one year left on his contract, Milan needs to decide soon whether they can reach an extension with Kessié. The Serie A club has lost two players this window in Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer.

Having lost two key players with no transfer sum to show for it, Milan can’t go through that again. The English club has one thing in their favor in this reported battle with Inter. Perhaps Milan doesn’t want to sell a player to their biggest rival and is willing to talk with Tottenham over Kessié.

The Côte d’Ivoire international can play in the central and defensive midfield role, so he’s a versatile player.

As for a potential cost, Transfermarkt places his value at €55-million, but with one year left on his contract, it will be interesting to see whether Tottenham pays that price or lowers a potential fee for Kessié.
