Tottenham ‘pondering a move’ for 25-yr-old after making ‘tentative enquiries’

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 25-year-old joined the Magpies back in 2019 and he has established himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in the league.

According to a report from the Northern Echo, Chelsea are keeping tabs on the player as well and both teams are currently ‘pondering a move’ for the French winger.

Meanwhile, a report from the Athletic claimed a few days ago that Spurs have already ‘made tentative enquiries’ for the Newcastle winger and it remains to be seen whether they decide to follow it up with a concrete offer.

Antonio Conte signed Richarlison from Everton earlier on in the summer and the Brazilian is a naturally left-sided forward. Although he is not a specialist winger, he is likely to play in a position Saint-Maximin usually operates in.

It would be quite difficult for Tottenham to accommodate both players in the starting line-up and therefore a move for the Newcastle star does not make sense at this moment.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old can be quite inconsistent and his end product is simply not good enough for a team hoping to challenge for the Premier League title. He picked up five goals and five assists across 35 Premier League appearances last season.

There is no doubt that the 25-year-old can be devastating on his day and he has plenty of room for improvement. Someone like Conte can totally transform his game, but that is a hypothetical scenario, and it seems unlikely that Tottenham will splash the cash on him anytime soon.
