Tottenham partnership that Mourinho has decided will not happen

Football Insider claims that Jose Mourinho has made up his mind not to pair Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld together as his centre-backs.

Both players are two of the most senior defenders at the club at the moment alongside Davinson Sanchez.

While Sanchez has looked like a permanent part of the team this season, Dier and Alderweireld have been alternating their positions in the team.

The partnership of Dier and the Belgian, who only signed a new deal this year, has rarely been seen and Football Insider has now offered some explanation.

The report claims that Mourinho has realised that both players are simply to slow to play together in the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

While Sanchez can be a liability, like the own goal he scored against West Ham at the weekend, the Colombian is an important option because of his impressive recovery speed, the report adds.

Spurs have also added Joe Rodon to their team this season, but the former Swansea man will likely have to take some time before he can start playing for the club.

Dier is currently out with injury and that allows Alderweireld to feature more for Tottenham, the Belgian will hope to still keep his place when the Englishman returns.
