Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has been criticised for his inconsistent performances since his move to the Premier League and journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed to Give Me Sport that Spurs could look to cash in on him after the signing of Pedro Porro.
“The agent’s saying that he thinks he could go to a bigger club than Tottenham, but he would definitely need to become more consistent and improve his performances for that to happen.
“But with Porro in there now, I think Spurs might be open to letting Emerson Royal leave in the summer for the right fee.”
The Spaniard was signed by Antonio Conte as the first-choice right back, and the former Sporting CP defender has done reasonably well in his last few outings.
Royal needs to leave Tottenham in order to play regular first-team football. The player’s agent recently revealed that his client could look to move to a bigger club in the near future.
A summer transfer would be ideal for all parties. He is clearly not good enough to start for a club hoping to challenge for major trophies and Tottenham will also be able to recoup the €25 million they invested in him. The Londoners should look to invest in a quality left-back with the proceeds from the sale.
Royal has not been able to adapt to English football properly and a move back to Spain could be ideal for him.
The North London giants already have a talented young defender in Djed Spence at their disposal, and the youngster could be an understudy to Pedro Porro next season.
