Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with the Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro.
According to our report from Record via Sportwitness, the 23-year-old defender remains a January target for Antonio Conte and the Londoners have already made their intentions to sign the player clear. Apparently, the Premier League club are offering the player wages of around €96,000 a week (€5m-a-season).
It Is fair to assume that Tottenham will not have problems agreeing on personal terms with the player but they are yet to secure an agreement with his club.
Sporting Lisbon are not keen on letting the player leave this month and therefore Tottenham have no option but to trigger his release clause which stands at €45 million.
There is no doubt that Tottenham need to bring in a quality right back who will be an upgrade on players like Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, but the reported €45m asking price seems unreasonable and Daniel Levy might not be open to sanctioning the outlay.
The Spurs chairman Is known to be a shrewd negotiator and he is unlikely to pay over the odds for the 23-year-old Spanish right back.
Pedro Porro has had a breakthrough season with Sporting Lisbon this year and he managed to impress with his performances in the Champions league. That defender has 10 assists to his name across all competitions and he would certainly improve Tottenham going forward.
Apart from his attacking qualities, that 23-year-old remains a reliable defender who is likely to improve considerably under the management of a world-class coach like Antonio Conte.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to go the distance and trigger his buy-out clause this month. Alternatively, they could look to wait until the summer transfer window and Sporting Lisbon might just decide to soften their stance and accept a reasonable fee at the end of the season.
