Tottenham not prepared to pay £8.8m for Barcelona outcast

Mundo Deportivo via Football London is reporting that Tottenham is interested in signing Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic, but won’t pay Barcelona’s asking price.

Barcelona is looking to offload some of their players in this transfer window and Rakitic is one player that has been told that he can leave.

The report claims that the Croatian has attracted the attention of Jose Mourinho as he rebuilds his Tottenham side.

Mundo Deportivo further adds that the midfielder also wants to move to north London, but Spurs are reluctant to pay a transfer fee for him.

The Lilywhites are competing with Sevilla for his signature, however, both teams don’t want to pay the £8.8m asking price that Barcelona has set for him.

Tottenham needs to bolster its team this summer as they eye a trophy in the coming campaign.

Mourinho always wins a trophy in his second season at a new club and Spurs fans will be hoping that they can end their trophy drought under the Portuguese.

Rakitic has been a part of the Barcelona side that has won numerous trophies and his addition to the Lilywhites will help them get a winning mindset in their dressing room.

The 32-year-old will also be a high earner and it remains unclear if Spurs will be able to pay him what he currently earns at Barcelona.
