Tottenham make midfielder announcement after reaching an agreement over pay-off

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tanguy Ndombele’s contract has been officially terminated by mutual consent, Tottenham have confirmed.

Yesterday, there were reports suggesting that the player and the club have agreed to a £5 million payoff to allow for this early termination.

And today, Ndombele’s departure has been confirmed by the club in a statement posted on their official website.

The statement read:

“The Club can confirm the departure of Tanguy Ndombele following the mutual termination of his contract, effective from 30 June, upon the conclusion of his current loan spell.”

“Signed from Olympique Lyonnais in July, 2019, the midfielder scored on his debut against Aston Villa and went on to make 91 appearances for us in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.”

“During his time here, Tanguy had loan spells back at Lyon, Napoli and with Turkish Süper Lig side Galatasaray last season.”

“We should like to wish Tanguy all the best for the future.”

Tottenham looking to bolster the midfield

Tottenham are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer, with Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher appearing as a serious option.

Spurs had been interested in Gallagher since last summer, but a deal did not materialise. They are expected to make another attempt to sign the Englishman during this transfer window.

Ndombele’s departure will free up substantial wages, which could be used to bolster the squad further.

Ange Postecoglou wants to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next season and will hope that the club backs him financially.
