Tottenham may need to fine tune it’s ambitions

The Premier League is quite rightly known as one of Europe’s top divisions, providing players with the type of exposure that very few other leagues can offer. Playing for Tottenham is a mixed bag, and in recent years, the ownership regime at ENIC have come under increasing pressure from fans and now a formal supporter’s group, to make the football more of a priority. It may sound like entitlement to some, but the reality is, Daniel Levy and his board started the discussion by implementing a strategy of expansion, investing a billion pounds into the stadium.

Most folks get their kicks in between match days, by enjoying the selection of games on platforms like GetSlots, but the plan at Spurs was to fill the up the days in between games, with other events, outside of football. What are we talking about, here, exactly? Well, think of it as like an Amerification of activities, such as live music concerts, go-cart racing, American football and boxing, which all attract the magic which is an enhanced dwell time of consumers. This has been hugely successful, with these additional revenue stream flooding into the business, boosting merchandise (as the stores are filled with Guns and Roses merch for the day) and of course food and beverage sales.

The beef that many Tottenham fans have, is that despite ploughing a tonne of money into the first team squad, there has been a veritable revolving door of coaches and only one piece of silverware secured in a quarter of a century.

One accusation commonly made is that CEO Daniel Levy is unwilling to meaningfully delegate when it comes to footballing matters, and just when fans have heard that the club has appointed Johan Lange, it then emerges, he’s not been left to do his job. Tottenham Hotspur were looking to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. Sources informed TheBoyHotspur that Daniel Levy and Johan Lange have flown out to France to negotiate a deal for the 26-year-old French international striker.

Another is that the chopping and changing of coaches is not just undermining any talk of a project, but has proved an expensive business, as highlighted by The Sun. Also, there’s the curious business of why serial winning coaches have failed at Spurs. José Mourinho was unceremoniously sacked just days before a cup final.

Whatever happens next at Spurs, the board needs to repair some of the mistrust which is visibly doing the rounds…
