Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is ready to return to the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020. Following the incident, the 29-year-old was fitted with a heart-starting device.
However, Italian rules prohibit players from competing with this device; as a result, the midfielder and Inter Milan mutually agreed to terminate his contract allowing him to become a free agent. Nonetheless, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte states, “the door is always open” for Eriksen.
“I didn’t speak recently with Christian, and for sure, it was fine to see him on a pitch and to see that he’s kicking a ball,” Conte said at a news conference.
“We are talking about a really important player, but especially a top man, and what happened [last] summer was not good for the people that work with him and the people that know him. I was scared at that moment and now to see him again ready to play football is a great news, and I think for Christian the door is always open.”
Eriksen made 305 appearances for Tottenham during his seven-year stint with the north London club. He scored 69 goals and registered 90 assists during his time with Spurs.
Furthermore, Conte had the Denmark international at Inter Milan, so there’s a connection between the player to the club and the manager.
The midfielder is reportedly connected with Premier League clubs, but there’s no further indication that Tottenham is among those eyeing Eriksen when he’s ready to sign with a team.
