Tottenham looking to hijack move for star who could cost over £40 million

Tottenham could hijack Atletico Madrid’s move for Chelsea academy graduate Conor Gallagher.

The North London club have a long-standing interest in Conor Gallagher. They have been after his signature for months. While they haven’t made any major progress yet, a report from Football Insider suggests Tottenham are planning to hijack Atletico Madrid’s deal for the services of the English international.

Spurs have recently parted ways with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and with Giovani Lo Celso’s future also uncertain, they do need to add more quality to their midfield. They have been after the services of Gallagher for a long while as people at the club consider him to be an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.

Deigo Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have been in advanced talks with Chelsea to sign their academy graduate who was one of their standout performers last season. The Madrid-based club’s latest offer was around £30 million which still seems to be way off the mark as the Blues want to raise in excess of £40 million from the departure of homegrown star.

With the negotiations still going on, Tottenham are planning to hijack Atletico’s move. The 24-year-old could be the perfect signing for Spurs as he has a lot of experience of playing in the Premier League. He is a versatile player who can play in different roles and his arrival will give Ange Postecoglou multiple tactical options. But, they won’t find it easy to strike a deal with Chelsea as other rival clubs could make a move for Gallagher.
