Tottenham long-term admirers of £25m-rated ace, want him to replace star who left this summer

Tottenham are eyeing Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney as an ideal replacement for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

While the North London club have already signed quite a few players this window and they look all set for the 2024/25 season, their manager Ange Postecoglou has suggested there is still some work to be done. Tottenham have signed two players from the Championship this summer. They brought in Wilson Odobert from Burnley for £25 million and Archie Gray from Leeds United for £30 million. Now, Spurs look all set to raid English second-tier outfit Middlesbrough for the services of another young star.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, the North London club are interested in the services of Hayden Hackney. Ange Postecoglou wants another defensive midfielder before the end of the window. He wants someone who can compete for a place in the starting XI and further strengthen their rotation.

They parted ways with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg earlier in the window. While he was surplus to requirements, they are looking to bring in an ideal replacement who is a better fit in the Australian manager’s system. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has had an impressive rise at Middlesbrough. His consistent performances suggest he could be a great signing for Spurs in the long run.

While the Championship outfit have no intentions of parting ways with one of their most important players in the final week of the window, Tottenham continue to monitor him. Their scouts were present in the stands to watch Hackney in action in Middlesbrough’s first two league games of the season. They seem prepared to play the waiting game for the services of the £25 million rated midfielder even though the Boro do not want to sell him.
