Tottenham lining up bargain move for 18-year-old French prodigy

Tottenham Hotspur could look to acquire the services of Bastien Meupiyou for a cut-price fee in the summer.

Meupiyou has had an impressive rise at FC Nantes but his progress has been halted because of an injury. However, the interest in his services hasn’t gone down. According to L’Equipe, Tottenham remain interested in the French defender’s services and could make the most of his contract situation to secure a cheap deal.

The 18-year-old centre-back has come up the ranks at Nantes and he got promoted to their first team last summer. He had a horror start to his senior career as he got sent off in the 9th minute on his Ligue 1 debut. Before he could bounce back, the teenager suffered an injury which kept him out from the remainder of the campaign.

Despite the poor start to his first-team career and the long-term injury, there is still interest in his services from multiple top clubs. Tottenham who were linked with the left-footed defender back in February and they remain interested in his services. They want more depth at the back and Meupiyou could be a great addition to their squad both for the short as well as the long term.

His contract at Nantes runs out in the summer of 2025. While there have been talks with the youngster regarding a potential renewal, an agreement is not close.

Nantes are unlikely to risk losing out on him for free, as a result, they will look to sanction his departure in the summer. With Meupiyou’s contract running out, Spurs will look to make the most out of the situation and secure the services of the teenage defender for a cut-price fee.
