Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sportwitness), the Belgian international is up for sale during the January transfer window, and Tottenham retains an interest in him.
The London club were reportedly keen on signing the player during the summer transfer window as well but Carrasco decided to stay with the Spanish club and he was promised a pay rise. However, Atletico Madrid have not delivered on the promise and his performances have dipped as well.
The Spanish giants are now looking to cash in on him because of their financial constraints. Atletico Madrid crashed out of the Champions League recently and they will need to raise funds by selling some of their players.
Carrasco is considered an expandable asset, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham come forward with a respectable offer in the coming weeks. The player is valued at £51m.
The report adds that Antonio Conte is looking to bring reinforcements during the January transfer window to build on his side’s impressive start to the season.
Spurs are currently in the top four and they will be hoping to finish the season on a high and win a trophy. Bringing in someone like Carrasco will add more depth and quality to their front three.
The ‘incredible‘ Belgian international will add pace and flair in the final third. His direct playing style should help him settle into the Premier League as well. He has won the Europa League and the Spanish League with Atletico Madrid.
It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree on a fee in the coming weeks.
