Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer.
The 22-year-old winger has been quite impressive for Leicester City this season and he has scored five goals across all competitions.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Tottenham ‘like’ the player, and they could look to make a move for him in the near future.
Jacobs believes that the Leicester winger is a ‘very Postecoglou-like player’ who could improve Tottenham going forward.
“McAteer is a very Postecoglou-like player, and he’s had a breakthrough season at Leicester. So, this is someone on Spurs’ radar, more for 2025 than 2024. But circumstances could change things. So, as far as McAteer is concerned, he’s extremely settled at Leicester and has played 13 games in the Championship, scoring four goals. He also got injured early in the 2023/24 season.
“But what Spurs like about him in terms of tracking him and planning potentially for the long term is that he’s a very Postecoglou-like player. He has high energy, can score goals, has a high ceiling, is still young, and can play attacking midfield, in central areas or as a right-winger. But Leicester know this as well.”
The 22-year-old will add goals and creativity in the final third and the North London club would certainly benefit from signing someone like him.
The North London outfit are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they have done well to sign the likes of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin this month. However, they are unlikely to make a move for the Championship winger in January and a move in 2025 looks more likely.
McAteer has a contract with Leicester City until the summer of 2025 and it wouldn’t be surprising if Tottenham decided to make a move for him at the end of the season. Given his contract situation, he could be available for a reasonable price during the summer transfer window.
A move to the Premier League would be an exciting opportunity for him and the player is likely to be tempted to join Tottenham. Regular football in the top flight would accelerate his development and a move to Tottenham would also give him the opportunity to showcase his qualities at the highest level.
