Tottenham keeping tabs on World Cup winner as they look to replace key star

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The 30-year-old helped Argentina win the World Cup back in December and the former Arsenal player has seen his stock rise exponentially over the last few months.

Martinez is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now and Tottenham could certainly use someone like him, especially with the way Hugo Lloris has been performing this season.

The 36-year-old has cost his side valuable points with goalkeeping blunders and Antonio Conte will feel that this is the right time to replace the French international goalkeeper.

Lloris remains an important part of the Tottenham squad and they will benefit from his leadership skills and experience. He could also be a useful squad player for Tottenham in the cup games but they will need to bring in a new first-choice shot-stopper at the end of the season.

A report from 90 min claims that Martinez is on their shortlist to replace the club legend. Tottenham have been linked with other Premier League goalkeepers like David Raya as well.

The Argentine has a contract with Aston Villa until the summer of 2027 and the West Midlands club could demand a premium for his services. It remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy is willing to loosen his purse strings in order to sign the 30-year-old World Cup winner.

Martinez could transform Spurs with his reflexes and shot-stopping ability. On current form, the Argentine would be a major upgrade on Lloris and Spurs need players like him if they want to challenge for the major trophies.
