Tottenham ‘keeping an eye’ on 25-year-old with 59 goals and 34 assists ahead of January transfer window

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham are ‘keeping an eye on’ Sporting CP attacker Pedro Goncalves ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to a latest report in O Jogo which claims that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in the 25-year-old including Aston Villa, Newcastle and Liverpool.

The former Wolves man has scored 59 goals and assisted 34 in 133 appearances for the Portuguese giants.

He joined Wolves back in 2017 but mostly played for the U21s before being sold to Portuguese club Famalicao in 2019 where he scored 7 goals and assisted 8 in 40 appearances.

And in 2020 he was snapped up by Sporting where he has racked up the incredible numbers.

Tottenham had a pretty decent summer transfer window as they signed 7 players including James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Guglielmo, Ashley Phillips, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, and Alejo Veliz.

They did however lost their best player in Harry Kane who joined Bayern Munich for a fee reportedly close to £100m. Losing him was a big blow but they did sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest on deadline day, a player who Ange admired.

They continue to be linked with further attacking reinforcements and could make another signing in January to bolster their squad.

TBH Says:

Goncalves is a versatile attacker who can play in a number of positions including both wings as well as an attacking midfielder. Versatility is a trait that Ange seems to prefer in his players as seen by the recent addition of Brennan Johnson. Despite having multiple options, the Australian preferred the Nottingham man reportedly due to the fact that he could play anywhere in the attack.
