Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber.
The 22-year-old midfielder is the twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber. A report from HITC claims that Tottenham are keeping tabs on the talented midfielder and they will face competition from Newcastle United as well.
The Dutch midfielder is highly rated across Europe and he has the attributes to develop into a complete central midfielder. Timber is an expert when it comes to dominating midfield contests with his physicality and technical attributes. He can win the ball back for his side, break up opposition attacks, and create goalscoring opportunities with his key passing ability and vision.
Former Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder has recently described the player as a fantastic talent who will be a starter for his country soon. It is no secret that Spurs need to bring in midfield reinforcements and the 22-year-old could prove to be a quality long-term investment.
“This boy is doing fantastic,” Sneijder told Vandaag Inside.
“We can be happy that he is there. And I think (Netherlands boss Ronald) Koeman shares my opinion.
“He can win balls. He conquers all the balls and is everywhere (on the pitch). Defensive, offensive, and he’s getting fitter. He will now also give through balls and can also shoot fantastically. As far as I’m concerned, he (should be) a starter (for the Netherlands).
“I think Koeman is also a fan.”
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to follow up on their interest with a concrete proposal to sign the player at the end of the season.
Timber will want to follow his brother to the Premier League soon and the opportunity to join Tottenham will be an attractive option for him. It would be a major step up in his career and he would get to showcase his qualities at a high level.
He could be the ideal long-term replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to move on at the end of the season.
