Tottenham join the chase for Spanish prodigy wanted by two other PL clubs

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Joan Gonzalez from Italian club Lecce.

According to a report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Tottenham are not the only Premier League club looking to sign the 20-year-old Spanish midfielder, and they will have to face competition from the likes of Everton and West Ham United.

It is no secret that Spurs need to add more quality and depth to their central midfield department and the talented young box-to-box midfielder could be a quality addition.

Gonzalez has a goal and two assists to his name across all competitions this season, and he could develop into a key player for Antonio Conte in future.

The 20-year-old is likely to be attracted to join the Premier League club if a concrete offer is presented in the coming months.

A move to Spurs would be a major step up in the player’s career and playing alongside top-class players will only accelerate his development.

Furthermore, working under a world-class manager like Antonio Conte could help him fulfil his potential.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can fend off the competition from their Premier League rivals and secure the 20-year-old’s signature.

Conte needs to bring in a quality central midfielder in order to be able to rotate his preferred starters. The Italian manager has had to overuse the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur during the first half of the season.

Someone like Gonzalez will help him rotate the side and keep the key players fresh during the second half of the season.
