Tottenham join Euro giants in the race to sign €17.5m playmaker

By Saikat -

Tottenham are interested in signing the Turkish midfielder Arda Guler during the summer transfer window.

According to Chris Wheatley, clubs like Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are in the race for the talented playmaker as well. The midfielder has a €17.5 million release clause in his contract and he is set to hold talks with Fenerbahce hierarchy regarding his future today.

Guler is regarded as one of the most talented young players in Europe right now and he would be an exciting addition to the Tottenham squad. The Londoners need to build for the future and Guler seems tailor-made for them.

The 18-year-old plays as the attacking midfielder and he is excellent at creating goalscoring opportunities in the final third. The midfielder is blessed with tremendous technique, vision, flair and close control. Spurs are crying out for a player with his skill-set right now.

Although they have been linked with James Maddison, Guler is someone they should look to sign at all costs. Spurs need someone who can carry the ball forward and open up deep defences with his close control and dribbling ability. While Maddison brings other qualities to the table, the England international is not as versatile as Guler and he is certainly not as effective in tight spaces.

Guler can play as a winger as well because of his dribbling ability, but he is more suited to the role of a number ten. The youngster has the talent to develop into a world-class player and the €17.5m release clause would seem like a bargain if Spurs signed him.

He could add some much-needed craft to their midfield and add some unpredictability to the attack.

The midfielder deserves a bigger stage and a move to Spurs would be ideal for him. Playing in England would accelerate his development as well. It remains to be seen whether the Londoners can beat the Euro giants and secure his signature.
