Tottenham issued transfer warning in their pursuit of ‘great player’

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

The 22-year-old Argentine striker had an exceptional campaign with the Dutch outfit last season and he helped them win the league title. Gimenez scored 23 goals across all competitions and his performances have attracted the attention of the North London club.

Former Feyenoord striker Roy Makaay has now claimed that the 22-year-old is a great player and he hopes that the Dutch outfit will be able to hold onto him until the end of the season. However, Makaay has warned if Gimenez continues to perform at this level, big clubs will be coming for him during the January transfer window.

Makaay said on FC Rijnmond: “If you watch the games and score the goals like that, he really is a great player. I hope Feyenoord can keep him until the end of the season.

“If Gimenez develops like this, he could go as early as the winter break. I think there will be clubs calling for him in the winter break.”

Tottenham sanctioned the departure of Harry Kane during the summer transfer window and they have decided not to bring in a direct replacement. It is evident that they need to sign a reliable goalscorer in January and it remains to be seen whether they decide to submit an offer for Gimenez.

The 22-year-old will be tempted to move to the Premier League he could prove to be a solid, long-term acquisition for Tottenham. Son Heung-min is the only reliable goalscorer at the club right now and Gimenez could share the goalscoring burden alongside him.

Richarlison has struggled to hit top form so far and the Argentine striker could prove to be an upgrade on him. It remains to be seen whether Spurs can fend off the interest in the talented young striker and secure his signature in the coming months.
