Tottenham is willing to pay €40M for a defender who Antonio Conte demands

Finding a central defender is atop Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer wishlist as they look to find the third member for the backline to go alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. There are plenty of names connected to the north London club, one of them is Piero Hincapié.

According to German media outlet Kicker (via Futbol Ecuador), manager Antonio Conte has requested that Spurs pursue the Ecuador international this summer. Furthermore, the report states that the Premier League side would be willing to pay Bayer Leverkusen €40 million.

Should Tottenham pay the price and the Bundesliga club accept the bid, Hincapié would arrive to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with some pressure as the fee makes him the most expensive Ecuadorian footballer ever.

The fee would crush the €18 million that Manchester United spent on Antonio Valencia in 2009, so the 20-year-old would be attempting to live up to that title. Last season, Hincapié made 33 appearances, helping Bayer Leverkusen finish in the top four and clinch UEFA Champions League football for next season.
