Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly involved in a race to sign the Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
According to a report from journalist Salvatore Biazzo, it will be difficult to sign the 24-year-old Nigerian international but Tottenham are involved in a battle with clubs like Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Italian journalist believes that Liverpool are unlikely to be able to sign the player because of their financial situation. Apparently, the English club have debts to deal with and they will not be able to afford the Napoli striker.
He said via Siamoilnapoli: “We need to understand how Osimhen is psychologically after these family events. Now they also have to deal with the injury. De Laurentiis will want to follow his little gem closely because there are various problems around – he told Kiss Kiss Napoli -. Liverpool? In the Premier League there is a merciless fight between different teams with Arsenal, City and Tottenham. Liverpool are a historic team and could want a striker like Osimhen, but I see the financial exposure of English clubs and Liverpool are placed high in the ranking of those who have debts.”
Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham if they can get the deal done. Spurs have not brought in a quality replacement for Harry Kane and the Nigerian international certainly fits the profile. He is a proven goalscorer at the highest level and he could make an immediate impact at Tottenham.
Richarlison was expected to step up and fill the void by Kane but the Brazilian international has been largely underwhelming. Tottenham must look to bring in an upgrade in the coming months and Osimhen would be a superb acquisition.
The 24-year-old helped Napoli win the league title last season and he scored 31 goals across all competitions. He will want to prove himself in the Premier League and the opportunity to join the top six club could be hard to turn down.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can win the race for his signature. They have shown impressive form since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and a quality signing like Osimhen could transform them.
