Tottenham interested in signing highly rated La Liga midfielder – club has already heavily scouted him

According to a latest report from 90min, Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra.

The report claims that Tottenham, Newcastle, Arsenal and West Ham United have all ‘scouted’ the young midfielder ‘over the last few weeks’ and months.

It further adds that all of the above mentioned clubs had scouts sent to watch him during Spain U21s victory over Scotland back in September.

However, it will not be easy for Spurs to sign him as the Spanish club has no intentions of selling him.

Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Corona in an interview with Daily Mail earlier this month made it very clear. He said:

“We are fully aware that we have a player with enormous potential for the future and the ability to perform at a good level now.”

“That is why the club have decisively moved him up to the first team in recent months. It is not in our plans to sell him to any club.”

The player has a €100m release clause in his current contract which ends in 2027. Valencia will be under no pressure to sell him now.

He would be a brilliant long-term signing for Spurs but at that price, it is highly unlikely that Daniel Levy will sanction any move.

But Spurs will be in market for a midfielder or two in January. Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr along with James Maddison have become the preferred trio for Ange but the club lacks depth in the area.

Hojbjerg has not been in the manager’s plans with strong links of a move away in January and Bentancur is yet to return from injury.

To make things more complicated for Spurs, Bissouma and Sarr could miss up to 6 weeks of action due the upcoming AFCON scheduled in January.

How Levy and co respond to this in the upcoming transfer window remains to be seen.
