Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Sporting CP winger Pedro Goncalves.
The 24-year-old winger has been in fine form for the Portuguese club this season, scoring 18 goals and picking up 12 assists across all competitions.
The North London club have been linked with a move for the winger recently, and it appears that they have intensified their pursuit of the talented attacker now.
According to a report from A Bola (h/t SportWitness), Tottenham have now accelerated their move to sign the player at the end of the season. The report further states that the North London club had already spoken to Sporting regarding Goncalves in January when they were negotiating a deal to sign defender, Pedro Porro.
It remains to be seen whether they can convince Sporting CP to sell the player for a reasonable price in the coming months.
Apparently, the winger has a release close of around €80 million in his contract. Despite his exploits this season, it is highly unlikely that his suitors will agree to pay that kind of money for his services.
Tottenham could certainly use more goals and creativity in their site and Goncalves would be a quality long-term acquisition.
He could be the ideal long-term replacement for South Korean international Son Heung-Min. Son has not been at his best decision and he is in his 30s now. Tottenham must look to start planning for a future without him.
The opportunity to play in the Premier League and showcase his qualities at a high level is likely to be a tempting proposition for Goncalves.
The 24-year-old has impressed against the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal in the European competitions earlier this season. There is no doubt that he has the ability to thrive in English football, and it remains to be seen whether he ends up.
