Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.
The 18-year-old has been a key player for the Belgian club and he has been nominated for the 2023 Golden Boy award.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has now revealed that Spurs have already been ‘in contact’ with the Belgian club regarding a move for the player.
Vermeeren is regarded highly in European football and he could develop into a top-class central midfielder. The Belgian has the technical attributes to develop into a complete midfielder and he could be the ideal long-term replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Denmark international is expected to leave Tottenham after falling down the pecking order under the new manager and there is a belief that he does not fit the Australian’s style of play.
Tottenham might need to bring in another central midfielder soon.
The Belgian club will not want to lose their prized prospect any time soon, but they could be powerless to stop him from leaving if Tottenham come forward with a lucrative proposal. The midfielder is also likely to be tempted to join a Premier League club and Tottenham are currently flying high.
Spurs are on top of the league table and they have started the season really well. There is no reason why they cannot compete for major trophies and Vermeeren could be excited to join them if there is an opportunity.
Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing attacking style of football could be an added incentive for the player as well.
Vermeeren excels in the defensive department of his game, but he will add composure and control in the middle of the park as well. He could be a quality long-term partner for Yves Bissouma at the heart of Tottenham’s midfield.
The midfielder has been linked with other English clubs as well and Tottenham should look to make their move quickly in order to fend off the competition.
