Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust Declares War On Rational Thought |opinion

By The Boy -

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust has declared was on ENIC. This may sound dramatic, but the reality is that this is the equivalent of a man dressed as a fish finger declaring war on Captain Birdseye.

The full text of the outraged mob is here but in a nutshell, they want the current board to resign and for ENIC to install ‘some other people’ in its stead, plus a competition winner from the Supporters’ Trust to sit on the board.

As discussed in recent videos by The Boy the outrage surrounding this entire European Super League business strikes me as faux as artificial snow. The list of ‘crimes’ against the best interests of this football club at the hands of ENIC is a lengthy one. We’ve covered all of them in this blog over the last decade or so.

The reality is that we do not live in a Marxist state and so hurty feelings count for little against the way things in the UK operate, and so 90% of people on a phone-in thankfully can’t affect change against a private business.

Well done? What for? He did very little in the final analysis, regardless of it was all his fault or not.

Levy is obviously outraged that he was prevented from being part of the ESL.

There seemed to be genuine anger from the supporters of Liverpool,( and some of their players, well done Jordan Henderson ), Man Utd, even Solskjaer has spoken out against it and the Chelsea fans. Spurs supporters, have by and large, been very supine during the Levy years of unadulterated failure. The THST requests will inevitably fall on deaf ears but replacing Levy would be a step in the right direction. I agree that these demonstrations should have happened years ago and should not just be about the ESL but about years of ineptitude, chronic failure and complete and utter contempt for the fans but it is about time that the fans woke up. I find it amusing and apposite that the other PL clubs have requested that the representatives of the six ESL clubs stand down from various committees. One anonymous club chairman was quoted as saying that they had more faces than a clock and were completely untrustworthy.
Make no mistake, Levy’s actions and his mealy mouthed apology has reinforced the consensus view that he is one of the most hated men in football.

A lot of the outrage is definitely faux outrage. Like all this hashtag protest stuff, in the end very little of it has anything to do with working out tangible solutions. Just lots of ‘outrage’ and hot air with zero answers. An incoherent noise.

However, I hope this whole Supporters Trust protest isn’t just about the Super League debacle. If it wakes people up to what ENIC’s mindset is then it has to be s good thing.

After all, hoodwinking the fans is what has enabled Levy to deliver one League Cup in 22 years while using everyone else’s money to develop property…

I say well done Jose…I don’t think for a minute he didn’t want this to work, however he clearly misread the board and what ENIC are really about…so what if he had a go at the players…f#kc them…over paid tossers need putting in their place…cap wages and make players pay for agent fee’s..cap wages and add incentive packages for bonuses..

This lot seem about as far removed from the working class fan as Levy. If there even is such a thing now. We’ve already seen the we are Tottenham tv two at the front of the publicity stunt protests, when they’ve done vids declaring Levys brilliant work in the last 12 months and saying they didn’t want the ENIC out banners. Probably all for clicks. As H has said, where were all these “fans” when WHL was being smashed into smitherines?? The time to shout and stamp feet has passed. The clubs been taken from under our noses….and the people who tried to warn about these leeches were mocked and dug out over and over.

It’s another example of the clown shoe ENIC non fc has become.

Really depressing . Fact is the corporate structure of football (petrodollar teams excluded, a different evil) is the Same structure that dominates the rest of society, reinforcing inequality everywhere.
I respect THFC supporters trust coming up with suggestions for accountability. If this currently has no value or meaning in the morally and literally bankrupt world of football, that does not mean it is wrong or misguided.

I sincerely hope a multi billionaire with ‘limited intellignce’ does make an offer. Anything to get rid of the French mob, Dele, Winks, Dier etc. and sign some quality players.

Despite the Captain Birdseye analogy, although the THST’s requests for 51% of the shares is complete pie in the sky, I think it is a bit churlish to lambast these supporters. They are at least articulating what most contributors on this site have been writing, particularly your good self HH!
On another topic, I have been trying to send a video to this website but it will not let me copy and paste it and I do not have the link details. It is in Spanish with English subtitles about the ESL and is very funny but I have no idea how to send it. A friend of mine who is much more tech savvy than me says it is the website which does not allow it.

Exactly. ENIC aren’t even close to being the most morally-reprehensible of the top 6 team owners, they look like boy scouts compared to Citeh and Chelsea’s who are basically owned by corrupt foreign nations who can put billions/trillions into litigation at the slightest sniff of a decision not going their way (see Citheh’s CL ban that just “disappeared”).

51% is a lovely thought and it’s impressive how it works in Germany, but I’m impressed with how the German game is run full-stop, affordable tickets etc. which goes against the grain in this moder era of money and power hungry elites snatching every last bit of wealth and power they can get their hands on.

ENIC are the best of a bad bunch, but they’re still rotten.

The THST have asked for the board to be replaced. ENIC will still own the club so nothing will change whoever is on the board. Getting ENIC to relinquish 51% of the club to fans or whoever else will cost absolute fortunes. Levy and Lewis would rather lose limbs that give away shares. Unless someone with enormously deep pockets and limited intelligence (a rare combination) decides to offer ENIC close to £2bn, nothing will change. Boris Johnson can say what he likes. Private business is private business and ENIC know how to make a pound or ten.

So we complain about ENIC running the business side “well” (shiny stadium, global brand growth and the huge debt that comes with that etc) at the expense of what fans actually want i.e the success of our football team, then the supporters trust try and do something about it and we call them socialists and say it’s never going to change anything. How else are we going to get ENIC out unless we take opportunities like this, where they’ve clearly moved against the best interests of the majority of fans in order to line their pockets with even more of our money?

IMO 51% fan ownership is the only way to protect football from the billionaire elite and their profits-over-values approach, it works in Germany and it meant that Bayern and Dortmund avoided this Super League rubbish. 51% will never be allowed to happen in this country no matter how much Boris is going on about “protecting the game” because at the end of the day money talks and these super-rich elite who own the football clubs speak it fluently, funnily enough the privately educated millionaire politicians speak it pretty well too.

That being said I believe the fan protests and supporters trusts statements are spot on, we don’t want 6 English clubs to succeed while all others fall into decline (even if one of those is West Ham!), we don’t want to lose the meritocracy of the Premier League and Champions League in Europe, we don’t want to lose the dream of the minnows having a chance (however slim) of winning the league or qualifying for Europe.

At least THST are attempting to out pressure on ENIC and using this situation to push a more “fan focused” agenda, I think that’s exactly what they’re there do to.

Nice to be a supporters club/trust , chance to get out , meet people a little protest now and then .

Other than that pointless.

I am struggling to understand that fan power won the day , I guess we need to wait for the ‘real’ reason to surface why all six clubs retreated in sync.

Although I hate ENIC and would gladly come out of retirement to hold a piece of cardboard with “Baldy Out” scribbled on it I sort of agree with you on this. I know of a member who a few years ago had a go at a fellow Spurs fan with the put down of “senior fans should be allowed to…………”
Senior fans what a tw*t.
